AT THE RACES ~ AT THE BIJOU ~ PREAKNESS POSTING

PREAKNESS POWERS PIMLICO

It's a fast track. Turf conditions are firm.
~ Third Saturday in May ~ PREAKNESS DAY!

Welcome to Pimlico, on Preakness Racing Day  ~ Baltimore, Maryland your Maryland

For a fashionable segment of racing fans from 1870 on, there was no other place to be or be seen on Preakness Day than the sprawling stately Victorian building known as the Old Clubhouse, THE HOUSE OF STYLE. Men and women dressed to the height of fashion were served by white-coated waiters, directed by a maitre d’ wearing a tuxedo. Gleaming wood floors led to numerous sitting rooms, a wrap-around porch and an ornate cupola. Elegance prevailed and the menu followed suit. Standing at the foot of the homestretch, the structure was destroyed in June 1966 – with it went a racing tradition, heirlooms, photographs and paintings, genteel customs and more than nine decades of memories. A token replica of the destroyed building’s cupola now sits in the infield, complete with the notorious painted horse and jockey weather vane. (from Preakness history files)

No matter if you are stylin' from the genteel crowd or a whooping-it-up rowdy in the rough ~ EVERYONE HAS A HORSE ON PREAKNESS DAY, third Saturday in May, second gem of racing's Triple Crown.
It's a Tradition, I tell you.

Along with the loveliest of gracious ladies' hats, LUCK is still the fashion of the day . . . the question is WHICH of the 12 contending horses will wear the black-eyed susan blanket home?
PONDER, PONDER, Preakness style.

Oopsy, one too many Black-eyed Susan's caused me to plop this in the wrong spot!

Sugar's bets are...
$25 win/place on Schoolyard Dreams = $50
$10 Exacta Box Schoolyard Dreams with Super Saver = $20
$5 Trifecta Box Schoolyard Dreams with Super Saver and Dublin = $30

Maryland, my Maryland...

There's no such thing as a wrong spot Sport, when you're sippin' Black-Eyed Susans from The SUGAR*SHACK!

Uh, I'd better quit sippin' and study my racin' form too.

KATE REACHED INTO HER $100 POCKET AND PLAYED THE PONIES THIS WAY:

TO WIN:
Super Saver ~ $10
Looking At Lucky ~$10

TO PLACE:
Super Saver ~ $10
Looking At Lucky ~ $10
Dublin ~ $10

TO SHOW:
Super Saver ~ $8
Looking At Lucky ~ $8
Dublin ~ $8
Paddy O'Prado ~ $8
Jackson Bend ~ $8
Yawanna Twist ~ $10, my longshot

Now off to the SUGAR*SHACK for sippin' and *clinkin* Black-Eyed Susans and hearin' Shoogs sing "Maryland My Maryland" < It gets better the more I drink!

Easy selection:

$20 on Schoolyard Dreams to Win

$20 on Schoolyard Dreams to Place

$20 on Schoolyard Dreams to Show

and an extra $40 on Calvin Borel to see if his mouth is where his horse is -- to win the Triple Crown -- That would be Super Saver to Win

Prof knows schoolin' and there ain't no better place to bet than Dreamin' in a Schoolyard.

I've dreamed on quite a few...

ABSOLUTELY*KATE said...

Whatdidya dream? And did they come true?

Sugar said...

One time I dreamed I was Harriet Tubman and told all my passengers that every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.

Maryland, my Maryland, where Harriet Tubman was the conductor on that Underground Freedom Train

And I always believed that somewhere over the rainbow where skies are blue...the dreams that I dared to dream really would come true...I'm patient.

ABSOLUTELY*KATE said...

If happy bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow then why oh why can't you? True. The Harriet Tubman dream is some mighty heady stuff of goodness doing its best stuff. Your stuff is worth that stuff. Now ... on to the races.

HERE'S HARRY'S PICKS FROM WHERE HE CALLED IN FROM THE PADDOCK, SEEMINGLY GETTING SOME HORSE-SENSE. (that's what they all say) ... Shoogs and I figger it has somethin' to do with a filly - it's always a filly:

"Time to go look at some ponies. Here are my picks for when you get the Preakness pick 'ems up At The Bijou:

$100 Trifecta Lookin' At Lucky in front of Super Saver in front of Paddy O'Prado 7,8,10" -- HSB

Well Lookin' At Lucky did his part but what happened to Super Saver and Paddy o'Prado?

Here are the results:

Looks like the only one cashing today is AK.

$10 win = $34 + $10 place = $23 + $8 show bet = $15.20 for a return of $72.20 for the $100.00 bet.

Winner by virtue of the smallest loss ($17.80) to host off brand M&Ms and Old Milwaukee after party. Congratulations Katie*Girl!

Harry said...

OK, I missed another one.

AK also had Jackson Bend to SHOW for $8 bucks, giving her another $26.40 and pushing her Pure Pimilico Profit (and Peanut M&Ms and Pabst Party budget) to $8.60.

Kongrats K*G!

ABSOLUTELY*KATE said...

That's the BIG bag of Peanut M&M's, all the better to share with track pals on the car ride home of exultation ... which leaves enough for a Smirnoff Ice to sip in the Place my Win did Show.

Hmmm, and Sugar and I will think twice about letting you cash in our tickets at the WINNER's WINDOW! (smile inclusive - I heard you bet a horse yesterday by name of Bad Karma - you'd think -- ah, nevermind)

Nicole_Hadaway said...

Awwww Damn! So sorry I missed this one yesterday!! I was too busy introducing people to Lost Boys and Fright Night!!!

ABSOLUTELY*KATE said...

Well Ms Introducer ... While you were with the Lost Boys I waited til after the race to head into the forest of Nottingham with Sir Robin that Hood. We'll send Benny da Bookie over before the Belmont so you can bet your hundred smackeroos in style.
