Author #4 Salvatore Buttaci:

Salvatore Buttaci, an obsessive-compulsive storyteller plies his craft many hours a day to satisfy a ravenous writing addiction. Author #5 Leonard Cohen:

Poet, Prophet, Singer/Songwriter, Novelist, Eternal Optimist dubbed the Godfather of Gloom?  Why yes, all that and more ~ to be prolific is to let an expressor's inner voice reach all the worlds it speaks to . . .  Known widely in the world for how he's added to music, the dual-spirits of Cohen's writings are what linger yet more melodically. Leonard was born quite Jewish in Montreal, feeling both burden and blessing of his name ~ "kohen" = priest in Hebrew. From strong traditions, plus a Rabbi grandfather, influences of Judaism reflect their parameters through much of Cohen's prose ~ both for and against.   

When his successful singing career made memorable music, Cohen felt the urge to create and publish as well. Contemporary psalms addressing God with praise vs anger, trust vs doubt as "Book of Mercy" weave this writer's tandem threads to speak from psyche/soul to a God both ever present, yet mystifyingly silent.

Author #6 Ray Bradbury:

This Illinois boy, lauded as the Godfather of 20th Century Science Fiction, has a fear of flying and operating vehicles, along with the legacy of a great-great-great grandmother who saved herself from hanging in the Salem witchcraft trials.  When a rough kid heckled this kid to trash his comic books and science fiction stash, young Ray was lost and empty, feeling he'd rejected his very best friends. Immediately he rebuilt his vast collection and never looked back. Later in life, four lovely daughters received Daddy's Arthur Conan Doyle style of bedtime storying - "Hound of The Baskervilles". The Bradbury way of being ~ all swirls the psyche, doesn't it?

When his family had moved westward ho to LA, young Ray rollerskated Hollywood in search of celebrities. Years later the mutual admiration society rollicked true when Fellini embraced Bradbury as "My Twin". But the boy heckled for science fiction fanaticism, the young man whose short stories were scathed by a publisher with, "Bah, you'll never be published!" knew to keep on keeping on. Always writers' way, eh? Handwritten notes and outlines accompanied Ray's burgeoning pockets to his local public library where he plunked away on a rented typewriter to complete the original manuscript of a novel initially called "The Fireman". In an authenticity check, he phoned the local fire department inquiring what temperature paper burns ~  "Fahrenheit 451". There's always the willful way, inspiration's way, when a writer just has to write . . . and write . . . and write.
 

Ray Bradbury -- man who wished to be actor -- learned from reading Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, published stories in fanzines and pulps . . . met his true life's love in a bookstore, of course. His short story collection based on ancient Greek and Roman mythology, "The Martian Chronicles" shot fame his way, and -- as shooting stars tend to do . . . Ray kept ascending.  

This is where I mention an asteroid has been named in his honour, quirky segway of truth meets cosmos - 9766 Bradbury. Novels have been adapted to films. Alfred Hitchcock's TV series graced by Bradbury writing . . . and over 600 short stories, 30 books, poems and plays, awards and honours prolificate this Sci Fi giant's literary success, marked the more by a star where Ray rollerskated on Hollywood Boulevard ~ The Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Ray's still shining in LA. He writes daily.

Author #2 Jack Kerouac:

Born Jean-Louis Kerouac, a French-Canadian kid in working-class Lowell, Massachusetts, Jack personified the Beat Generation he invented, but had his early story-telling ways inspired by -- who knew --  the mysterious radio show, "The Shadow"  along with novels of Thomas Wolfe -- quite a churning combo. Disillusionment entered the mix ~ a coach refusing a football star his playing glory let a Columbia scholarship skid by the sidelines, disappointment in a dad and the military and even the Merchant Marines led to -- what else - hangin' with depraved young Columbia students around New York, Berkley and Frisco and even zen'lightenment. Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs, Neal Cassady and Gary Snyder made their marks in his psyche, his road trips and some generous assists in his publishing history.

Spontaneous prose falling out as it may, without edit, fictionalizing or even thinking about it all that much reamed a single long roll of unbroken paper, On The Road, along with unpublished novels lugged 'long the way in a rugged rucksack. Kinda like Jack. Underground celebritizing from poetry readings circa '55, cast The Beat Generation into the limelight that opened Jack's rucksack to publication after publication. Regarded as the most talented writer o'the pack, Jack reflected back at rejection years against the "Snap to it Jack" role of Young Beat Icon to feed the public's taste for popular success. Older, sadder and insightfully more intelligent than literary critics charging "fad" expected him to be, Jack took his writing seriously . . . and his drinking. Moral and spiritual decline messing with one's illusions is a bitch, a dimming bitch who wreaks havoc on momentum. The sweet wine of Tokay or a handy bottle of Thunderbird answered.
